In 1995 the US Census Bureau made projections of Alabama's population in the year 2025. Here are the highlights:

  • total population: 5,224,000, a 23% increase from 1995

  • 66% of increase due to net migration (~577,000)

  • population will be older

  • the number of Alabamians 20-65 (the workforce) will only grow by 15%.

  • 21% will be 65 or older, compared with 13% in 1995.

  • little change in racial and ethnic make-up
