The Future
Prediction is notoriously difficult (think
of the weather!) and is more difficult the more complex the system.
Prediction is based on understanding the present state of a system, the
driving forces, trends through time and how external factors might
change.
So what will Alabama look like 25 years from now or at the beginning of
the 22nd century? The main influencing factors are
population growth and
climate change. This
section looks briefly at both and then at the future of our
energy reserves.
