Another way to see the variation in rainfall and temperature across the state is to look at isotherm (lines of equal temperature) and isohyet (lines of equal rainfall) maps (Figures CL2 and 3).

Average annual temperatures increase by about 8oF from NE to SW.

Rainfall varies from about 50" per year to 65" per year.  The driest part of the state (50 to 52") occurs in a band across the center of the state and along its border with Mississippi near the NW corner of the state.
